Dr. Gezzel, one of our veterinarians, had the unique opportunity to volunteer in Sri Lanka
recently. She was embedded within WECare Worldwide organisation’s CNVR
(Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release) program for 2 weeks.
Sri Lanka faces a range of animal welfare challenges including an overpopulation of stray dogs
with limited access to veterinary services especially in rural areas, so WECare was set up by a
UK veterinarian in 2014 to neuter and vaccinate, treat illness and injury plus educate the
general public about the welfare of roaming street dogs.
It was an overwhelmingly amazing and humbling experience for her – connecting with the Sri
Lankan staff who do so much with so little, meeting the many lovely street dogs and she hopes
to have made a positive impact to the local community.
Please check out WECare at https://wecareworldwide.org.uk/. Any donations would be much
appreciated!
